1/8th of the Way There

Anyone who knows me knows that I think there is no bad time to have a party. I love coming up with any reason to have a party. And the kids love it. Benny started asking when our next party is going to be. So, yesterday Chris took his exam to complete his first little section of Medical school. So we threw him a 1/8th of the way there party. It was just me and the kids, but we had all of his favorite foods and colored him a great banner. Then we put on music and played Operation after we ate. I gave Chris the game of Operation at our acceptance letter party last year. Since then I think he has only beat me once, guess I should be the doctor ;). It was a lot of fun celebrating as a family this small step closer we have come to being done. I know it may seem silly to most people but it means a lot to our family to have made it this far and we want to make sure Chris knows how much we love him and are thankful for how hard he works for us each day.

Benjamin

What can I say about Benny, except that he makes everyday a pure joy.

He is the most obedient child I have ever known. Now this doesn't mean that when I am not looking he doesn't get into his fair share of mischief; only that he is very good about doing everything I ask. Sometimes he gives me the drawn out OOOKKK mommy, but generally he loves to help. He loves his little brothers and is very protective. If we are at playgroup or the park he will come tell me if someone is being mean to the babies. If we are at the mall or somewhere and me and Chris pretend like we are going to leave Caleb cause he is throwing a fit about leaving, Benny gets really upset and says "come on Caleb", "You can't leave Caleb he is my brother", or " He is our family don't leave him". It never works on Caleb anyway, so Chris or I tell Benny not to worry we will just go get him, as he is fighting back tears. He adores Josh too, always very concerned if he is crying or if he falls down. Benjamin wakes up in the morning and comes straight to my bed and says "Hi Mommy, can I watch cartoons?" He loves Super heroes, especially Batman.

He has an extremely active imagination and has come up with a pretend friend Charlie who has super powers, but also likes a turn to pray at night. Benny knows his ABC's super well and has started putting small words together. The other day I was spelling T-O-Y-S to Chris about something and Benny without even noticing what he was doing said "toys". I said "Benny why are you talking about toys" and he said "cause you just said the letters for it". Chris and I where in aww! We have only worked on cat and hat and things like that. He also knows most of his primary songs and has started singing Christmas songs this year. We thought he would never sing in front of us. He always seemed so shy about singing in front of us.

Unfortunately he may have picked up some of my lack of talent for singing, but it is still the sweetest voice I have ever heard. He still tells me I am beautiful even with out makeup and loves when I snuggle with him at night. He calls Chris's school Doctor school and says he is going to be a doctor too. Benny loves to make up recipes like salami lettuce rolls.
I love having him around during the day. With Chris's late hours he helps keep me company. Benny love his cousins, especially Esther and tells people that when Chris finishes Doctor school we are going to move back to Provo to live by Esther. He says that the people here are just not like him and Esther and he wants her back. It hurts my heart when he says that cause I want my Hannah back. Hopefully he will get his wish and we can live close again.

He also randomly remembers his other friends like Kenyan and Little Emma (as he still calls her). He claims he is going to marry Annabelle and build a house where we can all live together. That might be fun. I have been trying to teach him how to put his shoes on the right feet for months and while he was at my Dad's house, my Dad told him that if he puts them on the wrong way he will end up going in two different directions. Now everyday he says "I gotta make sure they are on the right way or I will go the wrong way".

Here are a few more cute conversations we have had with Benny lately. Chris keeps a note on his Facebook page of more if you are interested.

Benjamin-Mommy (who is in the bathtub), you need some pickles.

Mom-Pickles?

Ben-For your eyes.

Mom-Do you mean cucumbers?

Ben-Yes.

Mom-Why do I need cucumbers for my eyes?

Ben-(pauses for a moment) In case you need a snack.

Ben-(At Wal-Mart) I want that Transformer Mask.

Dad-No.

Ben-But I want it.

Mom-You already have lots of toys.

Ben-But I don't have a transformer mask.

Mom-Well If you want it, then you will have to give away some of your toys (thinking this will make him think twice...not happening).

Ben-Daddy, can we go home so I can pick out some toys to give away?

Dad-Look Benny, let's make a deal. If you will help mommy do some special jobs around the house, I will pay you some money and you can buy the toy yourself.

Ben-(Thinks for a minute) Daddy, lets make a better deal. How about I give some toys to kids who don't have any, and you can go and work and make some more money and give it to me, and I will buy my Transformer mask.

Mom-(cracking up)

Dad-Let me get this straight. I work and make money, and you get the toy?

Ben-Yeah.

Dad-That sounds like a pretty crappy deal to me.

Ben-(Standing at the open back door and yelling into the yard) STOP!....STOP IT!!!....STOP MAKING IT SO HOT!!!...DO YOU HEAR ME???....STOP MAKING IT SO HOT...STOP IT...STOOOP IT!!!....STOP MAKING IT SO HOT!!!....YOU'RE MAKING JESUS SAD!!!!

Mom-(inside folding clothes)-Benjamin, who are you yelling at?

Ben-(matter-of-factly) The Sun. He...he keeps making my swing to hot to sit on.

I had just finished cooking some bacon (to get the grease for cream gravy) then I had to step out of the kitchen. Benny comes in, then runs to Sara all excited saying;

Ben-"Mom! I just found bacon just sitting on the counter!!!"

Sara-"Oh yeah, well you can have it if you want"

Ben-"Really?! I can have all of it??"

Sara-"Sure"

Ben-"I love you mommy"

Without Benny my day would be full of naps and poopy diapers. He keeps me sane and offers me a chance to regain a bit of innocence through his eyes each day.

Caleb

Caleb is probably my most mischievous child. He has already figured out hiding places in the house when I won't let him have something. He will open up doors and head outside if I am not watching. He loves his pass (or ass as he calls it. What is really funny is that he sucks on it upside down. If I try to fix it he will just turn it back.

He is like a faucet. He is either smiling from ear to ear or crying. But he is super fun. I can get him to laugh just by making fun of his cry when he is sad. He loves to cuddle. He will not take a nap unless I lay down and give him Eskimo kisses. He wraps his little tiny arm around my shoulder and then he is out. He loves sports, baseball, basketball, football. You name it. He goes crazy over me just drawing pictures of balls on paper.

Caleb went to my mom's house for a week and came back with thirty or so words added to his vocab. One of my favorites is "Ahh Man". He says this when I put him on the bed for a nap. Instead of crying he says "Ahh Man" in this shucks kinda voice. He also knows almost all his Alphabet by sight and his colors. This is not by any of my doing. He knew his letters before most of his words. He was about one when he first said "s" and "e". He also says "ipod", which is really funny cause he doesn't even say his own name, but he knows how to play games on an ipod. Caleb always wants to be outside doing what ever Benny is doing.

He always wants what ever toy his brother has. He loves bananas and calls all other fruits apples.

I never have to fight him to go to nursery, but he runs to me and Chris when we come to get him, especially Daddy. At night when he wants to sneak out of bed, he pulls his flannel blanket over his head and walks straight passed me and Chris thinking that he is invisible. So we say, "Caleb we can still see you" and blanket still over his head he turns and walks back to bed. He usually does this two or three times before falling asleep. I have to say that his smile is one of the best. I love that he got my dimples. All of my kids have dimples but his are huge and definitely light up his smile.

He always keeps us smiling and laughing at his crazy antics.

We wouldn't be complete without him.

Happy Birthday Hannah!

My little Sis is 27 today. She is pretty much ranked one of my favorite people in the world. She is also one of the funniest people in my life. She is a great mom, a sweet wife, and a dedicated friend to anyone who lets her in there life. In elementary school there was a kid in her class who was so poor they couldn't afford water to bathe in. No one would talk to them. Well, Hannah not only talked to them she became their best friend and wasn't ashamed to invite them to her birthday party. She also took a little girl with Downs Syndrome under her wing, and spent a lot of time playing with her. That is just two of the people she has been important to. So in honor of her birthday and since I can't afford gifts right now, here are my top ten for Hannah.

10. She is the first person I tell juicy gossip too. We don't gossip, but if we did:).
9. In high school I was actually a tad skinnier than her and so I would get her to stretch out my jeans for me after they had been washed. Now I have to stretch out hers, well if she didn't wear them so skin tight.
8. I could always trust that she would have something crazy in her closet to wear if I ever got a wild hair.
7. She could always beat me in a fight when we were little. My mom says we didn't fight a lot, but that is cause we hid it from her. It was probably some of the quietest fights ever.
6. We had to share a bed for twelve years. I think I will make my girls too. How can you not be best friends with someone you have wet the bed with?
5. She don't miss a chance for fixin my grammar.
4. Hannah was the one my mom worried about getting kidnapped the most, due to her lack of shyness. She was friends with everyone.
3. Her kids are lucky to have a mom who is so dedicated to their education. I would have gone insane after one week of homeschooling.
2. She loves old movies. I mean old, you know those ones that are in black and white, yes younger generation they didn't always have color.
And my number one for Hannah is:
Drum roll please.
1. She is the only person that has been able to make me laugh so hard that I have wet my pants. Not just a little drop or two. Full out, couldn't hold any back peed my pants. The most one being in front of her new boyfriend Ben and in a public restaurant.

If you don't have a sister that you can say all these things about you are really missing out, but don't even think about taking mine. She is not for sale...well maybe for rent.

Year End Updates

For the next few days I am going to try and do several small posts about things my kids have been doing this past year, more for me than you. I don't keep a journal so this is pretty much it, and I realized the other day that I really need to document more. So sorry if you get this in your email. You can just delete them it won't hurt my feelings. First we'll start with Joshua. Lately he has discovered the toilet. Yes I know every baby does. But it is the one thing that grosses me out the most. Plus, in my house I have two boys (notice I said two boys; Caleb doesn't use the potty yet Ha!Ha!) who forget to flush and put the lid down. Need I say more. The worst part is Joshy always acts so hurt when I won't let him go to town slopping in the toilet bowl. I know he is thinking, all I want to do is play in the toilet and knock the ornaments off the tree and you won't let me do either one. It sucks to be a baby. He also loves to play with the kids magnet board and alphabet. He just rattles them around and knocks them on the floor then picks them back up and starts over.

He loves to bang his crib against the wall to let me know he is awake. Sometimes he shakes it so hard I swear it is going to fall apart. I don't think it will last through another baby.

He is so easy to make laugh. I mean seriously even when he is crying his eyes out I can say BOO! and get him to giggle.

He eats more than either of the other two boys did and is already in eighteen month clothes.

He has started to clap his chubby little hands when he is excited and throws his head back when he laughs. When he is tired he will start bumping foreheads with you and smiling or giving you kisses. He loves to touch my face and hear me whisper in his ear it always makes him smile. He is still seven months from nursery, but I am already counting the days. His favorite game is to bang on the metal chairs during the lesson or crawl under the teachers skirt. Yet he is the easiest one to get to sleep at night (as long as he is in his bed), and he will fall asleep right in my arms during sacrament.

He only says Dada. He used to say Mama, but now it is only Dada. I think he crawls around looking for Chris when he is not here. That is okay though cause he always lights up the biggest when he hears my voice or sees me after I have been away. Sometimes I am afraid I squeeze him to hard cause he just so chubby and squishy I can't resist.

Benny calls him Joshy and Caleb calls him Baby Josh. Chris and I mostly call him Joshy Posh or fatty. He definitely brings sunshine into our home every day.

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas

This year we made our own stockings for Santa. Chris's is the obvious one. He drew the Santa for Benny's. I was very impressed.

The boys first Christmas to sleep under the tree.
