We are celebrating our sixth anniversary together.
Tonight it just happen to be babysitting group so we had a three hour date. I made Manicotti for the first time ever. Not to brag on myself but, it was delicious. I don't understand what all the trouble is with stuffing the shells either. It was a cinch and I made the entire meal plus sauces, in less than thirty minutes.
Chris bought me some beautiful flowers. It is the best thing in the world to wake up to fresh flowers on your kitchen table. I will so enjoy watching them bloom for the next few weeks.
I am just glad that we can still say after six years that we wouldn't have had it any other way. All of our trials together have been worth it and their have been lots more good times than bad times.
My neighbor Louie laughed at our measly six years claiming him and his wife were married for 56. I said "well I guess we have fifty years to go then." and I am in no hurry.
Well after six years of stretching out the last set of contacts my parents paid for, I had to give in and go to the eye doctor for a check up. He said I couldn't wear contacts for a while because I had not been changing them out regular enough and now I have some particle things in them. I don't rally understand, but I was cool with it cause Medicaid doesn't cover contacts anyway (which I strongly support. I am tired of all these luxuries people who are dependent on the government think they deserve). So for medical and political reasons I am sporting a brand new look. Tell me what you think. I also got a new haircut, but you can't really see it in the pictures.
In honor of my sweet husband I am going to tell you some of the things I love about him. And to keep it from getting redundant, I am going to tell you 2 things I dislike about him and 9 things I love about him; since he is turning 29!!
I will do the love things first cause they are nicer and I need to butter him up before breaking him down.
1. I love that he thinks I am sexy no matter what time of day it is or what I am wearing (potato sac included). 2. I love that he goes to school everyday without ever complaining and does his very best. 3. I love that we can still find things to talk about on our dates after almost six years of marriage (and it is not about our kids). 4. I love that he won't watch episodes of 30 Rock or The Office without me (even though I will). 5. I love that he never gets mad at me when I make a driving error. 6. I love that he knows his scriptures better than anyone I know and can teach a brilliant Sunday School lesson with five minutes notice. 7. I love that he has no shame in driving my "new to us" flashy red minivan. 8. I love that he always lets me sleep in and take naps whenever possible. 9. I love that he puts the Lord first and his family second in every decision he makes.
Now for the breakdown: 1. I dislike that he can remember every bone in the ear and every layer of the eye, but he can not remember our kids birthdays. 2. I dislike that I can't even think of two things worth mentioning (sorry he is better than I thought). All the other stuff is due to my OCD.
I love you Chris and hope you enjoy the last year of your twenties cause it is all over the hill from here.
One great thing about being in an actual neighborhood.
THE ICE CREAM MAN!
Chris hates the Ice Cream Man because he claims that he only has the crappy ice cream. I don't know what happened to him as a kid, but man who doesn't get all nostalgic when they hear "It's A Small World" playing on their street.
I wish I could have gotten a picture of this guy cause he was an Hispanic version of the Ice Cream Man off of the movie "Friday" (a little scary). But undamaged by Chris's negativity, Benny was heard to say, in a very compassionate way, "I love the Ice Cream Man". One complaint the prices are ridiculous.
But after looking at those happy faces, I think we can squeeze it in every now and then. I haven't found a store yet that sells Spiderman and Batman icecream.
We also got "new to us" sofas for the Living Room. So after sleeping on it through three pregnancies I had to say goodbye to the most comfortable couch in the world.
I really love the new ones though and am grateful for Craigslist. Now I will no longer have to wrestle with a couch cover ten times a day. Unfortunately I have to sew some more pillows now.
Chris modeling for our new more sophisticated living room look.
I noticed these videos on my camera and thought they were cute. The first one is a video of Caleb. The boys got nerf guns for Easter and Caleb kept loading his and telling Chris, "Shoot Me, Shoot Me". Who needs a shooting range, right!!
The next one is a video of Joshua walking. He came into the room hitting the drumstick on the floor as he walked and I thought it looked like a little blind man. I tried to get him to do it again, but it wasn't as cute. you get the idea though. He thinks it is funny now and tries to get me to laugh at him all the time.
Last I forgot to post my Valentine cupcakes that me and the kids decorated for the kids in babysitting group. Well, I should say I decorated. Unfortunately I have boys so crafts are not their thing. But they really like to eat and play with them.
This brings me to a comment I was going to post on my sisters blog. She posted an article about which was harder to raise, boys or girls. We were talking about it on the phone the other day and I figured most of you guys that read my blog read hers too.
I think that the article is pretty close as far as the different personality aspects of girls and boys, but I only have boys, so I am speaking from a skewed perspective. Although I do have lots of nieces so I think I have a little experience with girls. Any way the different categories that were addressed in the article and the way that boys and girls develop, I agree with. The outcome that boys are harder than girls I have to disagree with.
I think we have to look at our society. I mean in general women are the primary caregivers of their children. Therefore we are going to in most cases find it easier to deal with girls because we are girls and can sympathize better with their feelings. Where as boys seem harder because we are less likely to know what is going on inside their heads. I know for us, Chris seems to be much better at figuring out how to entertain my boys. Yes, I am the one who generally takes care of them, but I have a hard time understanding the infatuation with super heroes and such. I don't want to get down on the ground and wrestle, but Chris does. Chris understands why Benny is so upset cause someone broke the perfect stick that he found and was using as an arrow.
Anyway so my point is that I don't think that one sex is harder than the other. I think that it has more to do with it being harder for a boy to communicate their needs to the craft box toting Mom, or a girl to get their dad to realize sometimes they don't want to wrestle. Not always, but most the time.
So I am trying to get in touch with my inner child and instead of getting exhausted with the kids I think what would Chris do. Which has lead to a lot more running around the playground and shooting dart guns at each other. We have a lot more dance parties and rock music. I will not bend on two aspects though. I refuse to give up my chick flicks and my over decorating of birthday cakes. They will just have to wait till I am done perfecting their cakes to start their food fights.
First, off a weight loss update. Just for my journal keeping. It hasn't changed from four pounds. We have been a little distracted by life. I have still been going to the gym and counting calories, just not regularly. I am just glad I haven't gained any back, so this week with Easter passed we shall start fresh and hope we can add to that four pounds.
Our garden is slowly coming up. We are starting to get some buds on our pepper and tomato plants. Our raspberry hasn't done anything. I haven't really looked it up yet so it may not be in season yet. If anyone knows anything about raspberries let me know.
We had a wonderful three day weekend with Chris. Friday we tried to get errands and chores done and then went to our ward Easter egg hunt. The kids got plenty of candy and I almost waived our own home hunt because of it, but don't worry I am not that mean. So Saturday we just enjoyed our time hanging out together and the kids finished off their candy from Friday. Chris also fixed up Benny's big boy bike and took him down the street on a bike ride. First time on training wheels and he did super!
After the kids finally fell into their sugar induced comas, the Easter Bunny got to work. It is fun trying to find the right degree of difficulty for each kid to find their baskets. Benny can obviously search a little harder, but usually just stands in the middle of the room going asking where where.
Caleb found his first under the ET center and so naturally Benny assumed his would be in the same place.
Alas his was right over his head the whole time.
Joshua found his in his favorite place to find disgusting things to chew on.
Then we quickly headed out in the yard to see if the Easter Bunny hid any eggs for us, before the rain started.
Wow did he do a good job this year, twenty-three eggs and all candy filled. Benjamin and Caleb did a good job finding all of them very quickly, and were even faster at eating the candy.
They both got their own bubble guns, so while daddy made breakfast to break up the sugar high, we washed the kitchen table.
We had our traditional Tilapia for Easter dinner and it was delicious. It was Parmesan crusted with a Pico De Gallo over the top. Delicious!
The only downer was that Joshua started running fever and we had to spend a lot of time in the rocking chair, but I love when he will actually let me hold him.
That night before bed we decided to have a dance party. Chris showed the kids some of his moves. HA HA!
Oh yeah and Joshua is finally walking. It has been a slow process. A couple of months ago he took his first steps. But it has taken the last two months for him to slowly take a few more at a time.
Finally yesterday he decided it was okay to walk across a room. YAY! now I can cut out one of my gym memberships. For those who don't know. We bought a family membership at this community center where we could use the pool in the summers. It is extremely cheap compared to most gym's. Unfortunately they won't take kids in the child care till they are walking. We went ahead and bought it in July of last year for the swimming and we tried working out at times when Chris could keep Josh, but after school started my workout time got more scarce, and Josh was no where near walking, so I broke down and bought a membership at the gym down the road where they would take babies. So I have been paying for two memberships the last three months waiting on my kid to get up and go. Anyway, It seems stupid , but I was really starting to put on more weight and it was a necessary evil. But now I can check that off my list YAY For Joshua!
